PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning on Interstate 95 northbound near Exit 121 in St. Lucie County.
According to FHP, a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) had been issued by Hillsborough County for a 2024 silver Mitsubishi Outlander.

The driver, a 29-year-old man from Miami Gardens, was wanted on an active warrant and had previously fled from deputies.
At about 5:32 a.m., FHP Sgt. J. Torres spotted the vehicle traveling northbound near mile marker 126. After confirming the vehicle matched the BOLO, Torres attempted a traffic stop. The suspect fled, prompting Torres to initiate a PIT maneuver.
After the suspect's vehicle was stopped, troopers said the man opened fire on Torres.
Following a brief standoff, the suspect was taken into custody and taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were hurt during the incident.
WPTV reporter Zitlali Solache spoke with residents and drivers who were impacted by road closures. Longtime resident Corey Sandin said the growing population on the Treasure Coast comes with risks.
"I feel like that person put everybody’s life in jeopardy that was on the road," said Sandin. "It's small town Fort Pierce. You have a lot of people in this area, and it’s starting to develop in Tradition, Port St. Lucie and you don’t know who’s who."
Investigators have not released the name of the 29-year-old man.
